Tickets for Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona sold out within 3 hours of going on sale and the huge demand to watch this game has caused some problems with tickets being sold for astronomical sums of money.
The tickets went on sale at the Parc des Princes two weeks ago and some fans queued from 2:00 am in order to ensure that they would be able to see the match.
The lines of supporters circled the stadium and riot police had to be employed to quell the disquiet amongst those wanting to see their team play in the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier competition for the first time in 18 years.
Now the match tickets are selling for anything up to €1,800.
Viagogo, the official broker for the match, are selling tickets legally yet the cheapest costs € 169 and the most expensive € 1419.81 , depending where in the ground the seat is located.
Some tickets appear to be available for resale through outlets such as eBay and sellers have worked around eBay ticketing rules by selling scarves for € 800 and ‘giving away’ match tickets as part of the sale.
PSG are already working with the authorities to investigate the resale of these tickets.
Clearly, watching Barça is the hottest ticket in town.
